Eset Antivirus

For the past years I’ve been using McAfee as my anti-virus protection on my laptop. It came pre-installed on my Dell Vostro, and I always maintained the yearly subscription. Recently, I suspected a virus attack on my computer (SPAM was delivered to everyone on my Hotmail contact’s list). To make a long story short, I removed the McAfee, and installed ESET Smart Security V 4.0 on my computer. I’ve only had the program for 1 week, but so far I like it.

Installation: 5/5 Stars
I used the CD for installation, also it started right a way. ESET includes a video on their website that takes you with the process but you probably don’t need it because the whole installation only take few clicks.   Aside from that, the installation went smoothly.

Operation: 5/5 Stars
It took over 2 1/2 hours for McAfee to operate a full scan my computer. As it was scanning, it slowed my computer down to a crawl. Smart Security scans my computer in under an hour or so. ESET claims that “you won’t even notice it’s there” and in my experience that is true.

Interface: 5/5 Stars
I am in no way a “computer person”, and I found the interface is clear to see and extremely user friendly. It’s basic and straightforward.

Value: 3/5
I gave it an average rating because the price is not cheaper than most of home antivirus software out there. It’s affordable although not cheap either. However, its completely worth it because it put my mind at easy for the whole year. Actually, that’s priceless!

Product support: not rated
Aside using the online video tutorial to do a bit of research on few function, I did not have to call support.

Overall rating: 4.5/5 Stars

Run’s fast, easy interface, good protection!

The two home antivirus software above is just as good as Eset Home Antivirus!

Here are a couple of things I found while using Eset Home Antivirus

Check out the video and you will see what I am talking about. Toward the end, its just comparison between different scanner. At the end, Eset still win by far!

Pros: Light
Excellent detection rates
Excellent real time protection
IP blocking / website blocking
simple messages and interface

Cons: system tray icon is a little hard to see because it is transparent blue.

Summary: excellent suite

Highly recommended

Pros: a good comprehensive suite with a solid firewall and top notch antivirus protection

Cons: scans can be slow during first time full PC scan.

Summary: they say you cannot run more than 1 security suite on your computer. well i never have believed what they told me and i run several. eset runs alongside norton, avg, ad-aware, and webroot without any issues. running more than one suite has only one drawback from my experience, and that is a slower boot time. but i can put up with that for the extra security.
eset smart security is a good all round solid program that will be good as a stand alone or as a 2nd or even 3rd suite. if you are installing eset on top of norton or avg like i did i recommend making a back up or restore point first just in case.
initial install is easy, and boot time is marginally slower. my initial trsting of the product gives it the thumbs up, however it is a little pricey.
