A computer Virus alert - Downadup

There is a virus that is a new strain of an older virus. The virus is called Downadup and it goes on your computer as soon as it contacts another computer, called a server, for further instructions. This can potentially make this very dangerous virus at any time.

Thursday, January 22, 2009, 1.2 million computers have been infected by this new strain and can spread the virus, especially on corporate networks.   Should take a moment and the verification of your computer systems and computers in your friend.

This virus disables your anti-virus on your computer. If your computer is on a home or business network is a potential if one computer has this virus will spread to all other computers on the network, including servers in seconds.

If you have a virus protection program that is kept up-to-date, the chances are small computer becomes infected. This virus has been called Downadup, Kido or Conficker and if you run a scan and see none of these names could verify that your virus and Microsoft security program works...

One of the updates from Microsoft in October 2008 prevents your computer is infected with this virus. Microsoft also has a free tool for removing malicious software on the Microsoft site. When you go on the type of site to the MSRT initials in the search box and the tool will be in the upper part in search results. You should download this tool, run it and make sure that you do not have this or any other malicious software on your computer.

This virus is one labeled as a virus worm in addition to disabling the antivirus software stops all the work Microsoft updates and you also block access to one of your accounts on secure sites (créditBanque map)(, reservations, etc.).

One of the ways the virus spreads is to insert a USB device. A USB device can be a player flash/thumb, ipod, external drive, camera, CD burner, etc. If your computer is infected with this virus, and you connect the USB device to another computer, this computer will be immediately be infected.

If you do not have antivirus software, it is free online from a company called Grisoft. You can go on their site and in the search box type in the AVG free edition, and the free version will be in the search results.

If you have Comcast Internet, you can download McAfee Security suite, which includes some anti-virus. If you have Verizon, they offer a solution of security for a few dollars per month. I seek your Internet (ISP) Service provider and watch your account, or benefits/features to see what page they offer. I was on a single computer in North Jersey and they offered free Trend Micro.

Some colleges also offer antivirus software free for all students and staff members who attend the school.
